Education and Outreach
In its second decade plan, IR pledged its commitment to education, outreach, and capacity building. By investing the time, energy and resources necessary to build a successful Education and Outreach program, InterRidge will ensure that its message of responsible exploration and discovery of the world’s deep ocean is heard by students, the future stewards of the environment worldwide; policy-makers; and other members of the general public. The hope is that reaching out, educating and motivating people to learn about the mysteries of the deep sea – a place few will ever see in person – will engender a healthier respect for the Earth system at large.
Part of InterRidge’s mission is to promote international, collaborative, and interdisciplinary studies of oceanic spreading centers. We invite proposals for InterRidge Student and Postdoctoral Fellowships of up to 5000 US$ each.
InterRidge Cruise Bursary Program
InterRidge supports Cruise Bursaries to help early career ridge-crest scientists to participate in mid-ocean ridge research cruises. Bursaries are awarded for travel and subsistence costs required to join the cruise. We invite graduate students and postdoctoral researchers to apply. Up to 2000 US$ will be awarded for travel and subsistence costs to facilitate cruise participation.
InterRidge Student and Post-doc Travel awards
To facilitate international exchange and promote new collaborations by increasing the participation of early career scientists at symposia, InterRidge is awarding Student and Postdoc Travel Awards. 500 US$ grants is be offered to motivated students and postdocs to join the events approved by the InterRidge. More details will be open soon.
InterRidge Theoretical Institute (IRTI)
The Theoretical Institute provides lectures and workshops, gathering scientists around the world. Strengthening international collaboration, it encourages networking of young scientists. The last Theoretical Institute was held in France in 2019. We hope to have our next InterRidge Theoretical Institute (IRTI) during the summer of 2023 in Korea (perhaps in Jeju Island).
